What Is This Code? (index, follow, max-image-preview:large, max-snippet:-1, max-video-preview:-1)

help with code

Let’s find out what this means. I discovered it today on my websites, so I thought I would share my findings with you.

<meta name=’robots’ content=’index, follow, max-image-preview:large, max-snippet:-1, max-video-preview:-1′ />

This HTML code is what the SEO plugin Yoast has automatically added to your website, and it’s there to help you. Dont get confused by the minus symbol. (Minus does not mean not to show)

Why is it on my site?

This code is on your site, so you stay current with google’s ever-changing rules and regulations. For example, there is a new law in France that you must now opt-in instead of opt-out to having your content shown in the SERPs results by Google.

Yoast has auto-added the HTML code to every page that is set to be indexed. All the noindex or nosnippet pages/posts the code has not been added to.

How do I view my website source code?

Right-click on your website and click view page source or hit Ctrl+U

Yoast is one step ahead

Yoast has added this code in preparation if it is coming into effect in other parts of the world.

Can I change the code?

If, for any reason, you want to change the code. Yoast has a plugin that you will need to install called wpseo_robots. After downloading and installing, you will be able to edit the code. However unsure why you would want to. If in doubt, leave it be!
